How to turn any article URL into a structured Notion note with n8n
The problem
Saving articles as bare links means you never find or reread them; you want a summary, key insights and tags stored with each one.
Tools needed
- n8n
- OpenAI (JSON mode)
- Notion
Step-by-step recipe
- Receive a URL on an n8n webhook.
- Fetch the page with an HTTP Request node.
- Strip scripts, styles and tags in a Code node and truncate the text (8,000 characters in the source).
- Ask OpenAI in JSON mode for title, summary, key insights and tags.
- Map the fields straight into Notion database properties.
Copyable prompt
From the article text below, return JSON only:
{"title": "...", "summary": "2-3 sentences", "key_insights": ["...", "...", "..."], "tags": [up to 5 lowercase tags, reuse these if they fit: TAG LIST], "content_type": "tutorial|opinion|news|research|other"}
If the text is empty or looks like a cookie wall, return {"error": "no content"}.

What the builder reported
The author reports that stripping HTML first cut the payload from about 60K tokens to under 4K, which improved summaries and cut cost significantly.
These are the source author's own claims. AgentRecipes has not tested or verified them.
Watch out for
- Share the Notion database with your n8n integration first, or writes fail silently.
- JavaScript-heavy single-page apps return empty HTML; a Mozilla/5.0 User-Agent header clears most 403 errors.
