How to find forgotten subscriptions in your bank statements with Claude Cowork
The problem
Small recurring charges are easy to forget. The author's example was a €5/month subscription noticed seven months late.
Tools needed
- Claude Cowork
- Bank statements (CSV, XLS, XLSX or PDF)
- Optional: Windows Task Scheduler
Step-by-step recipe
- Save statements in a folder, one subfolder per bank, with the month in each filename.
- Ask Cowork to read every file, whatever the format.
- Have it flag charges that repeat across two or more months and leave out one-off purchases, groceries and bank fees.
- Ask for a dashboard with one card per subscription and an .xlsx report saved to the folder.
- Optionally rerun the prompt monthly.
Copyable prompt
Read all bank statements in this folder (subfolders per bank, month in each filename). Find charges that recur in at least two different months from the same merchant at a similar amount. Exclude groceries, one-off purchases, transfers and bank fees. For each subscription list: merchant, typical amount, frequency, first and last seen, bank. Save subscriptions.xlsx in this folder with those columns plus an empty "Keep / Cancel" column. Don't cancel anything.

What the builder reported
The source shows the dashboard and report as screenshots but gives no counts or savings totals.
These are the source author's own claims. AgentRecipes has not tested or verified them.
Watch out for
- The source suggests scheduling the prompt monthly with Task Scheduler.
- A 'Canceled' column stays empty unless you confirm cancellations yourself.
